What are the vehicle requirements for a driving test at the Connecticut DMV?

Your car must pass a vehicle inspection by the DMV before testing, which means it must be street legal.

In Connecticut, you must provide your own car for your road test. You may not use a rental car for a license test.

The car must pass a vehicle inspection by the DMV, which means it must be street legal. All lights need to be in working order, all tires must be fully inflated (no doughnuts or spares), all mirrors must be attached, all vehicle glass cannot be broken or cracked, and any vehicle modifications (such as tinted windows) must adhere to state law. The vehicle must have a valid registration certificate and proof of insurance.

If your vehicle does not pass the initial inspection, your test will be cancelled and you will be given no priority for rescheduling. If you are concerned about the legality of your car, consider using our car to test.
